BATTALION OF HUNTERS No. 2, 1808/1815
This battalion was organized in Moura, 28 October 1808 from a part of the "Legion Transtagana" created in Beja in 1808 when the survey of that city against the French occupation in Alentejo.
It was this battalion, one of the Portuguese units which most distinguished during the Peninsular War, participated in several operations, including:
Battle-of-Buçaco 09/27/1810;
Sitio de-Badajoz-Março/Abril, 1812;
-Battle of Salamanca-22/6/1812;
- Battle of Vitória-21/6/1813;
-Battle of Nivelle-10/11/1813;
-Battle of Nive-9/12/1813;
-Battle of Ortez-27/2/1814;
In 1815 there are records of this battalion stationed there instead.
The figure represents a soldier's uniform with two Hunters 1811/1815.
Dress uniform brown color of Zaragoza pinion. In 1811 the coat started to have live strings and black. The collar and sleeves of the guns have the color of the battalion, in this case is black and red respectively. This year, 1811, the gaiters in black, came to have a size shorter and worn under trousers.
As equipment has two black leather cartridge suspended, a shoulder strap, and another on the waist, a bayonet and a triangular section of "machete" (short sword and bow infantry).
The firearm was the famous "Brown Bess", working with English flintlock caliber and 20mm.
In the head, use the shako English type "stovepipe" of black felt with plume green (color distinctive of hunters Portuguese), above the national bond, and still hunting horn (a symbol of these distinctive properties), and the number of Battalion in yellow metal.
