1945年10月11日，日本受降仪式在河内举行，美军中将Philip E.Gallgher也在场，他的左边就是胡志明和被废黜的前越南国王Bao Dai，二战中，胡志明和美军OSS密切配合打击日军，营救美军飞行员。1945年9月2日，胡志明在越南北方的河内以临时政府的名义宣告越南共和国成立，并积极采取行动恢复越南的统一。胡志明幻想美军能帮助越南独立，可是理想和现实总是背道而驰的。在越南南方，一直坚持****的吴庭艳，于1955年10月在美国的支持下，在西贡成立新的政府。
